SKF VSM Multi-V belt
kits contain high quality bearings, pulleys and belt tensioners
constructed in modern elastomeric materials, to ensure longer
product lifespan. The preferred belt material is HSN
(highly-saturated nitrile), which offer far better performance in
the high temperature engine compartments of today's vehicles.
Today's automotive drive belt systems are subject to a number of
stress factors. Consider for instance higher operating temperatures
and greater revolutions per minute, more horsepower loads and
smaller pulley diameters to save space under the hood.
The function and characteristics of SKF VSM Multi-V belts are high
load transmitting capacity, optimized vibration and noise, robust
design, crack and wear resistance, high flexibility and temperature
range of -40° C to +120° C and a belt life of 160 000 Km or 10
years.

Description of failure
Belt material degraded.
Root cause
Oil or other petroleum derivatives on surface of belt.
Preventive of action
Eliminate source(s) of contamination. Look for leaks from engine
seals and auxiliaries, also overspill during re-filling. Remedy leak
sources.
Evidence
Oily, degraded belt material. Damage to teeth. |
