SKF waterpumps are designed and made of selected material to assure maximum flow and pressure. The special blue coating, also used in aerospace industry, minimizes problems with inferior coolants, preventing small particles of cooling liquid from sticking to the impeller for maximum corrosion resistance.
The high quality bearings and case hardened spindles provide high load capacity including both axial and radial stresses. Unitized mechanical seals virtually eliminate premature leaks the cause of 90% of all water pump replacements.
When Aquamax have subjected to testing and run for 1000 hours at average car speeds of 100 km per hour vapor leakage is well below acceptable OE standards and far below typical aftermarket products.
Note that, after replacement at start up, a limited leakage coming from the hole on the water pump body could occur. That phenomenon linked to the mechanical seal running conditions is normal and do not reflect any water pump problem.
Failure and analysis - Water pumps
Description of failure
Scratched pump seal faces (carbon and ceramic rings) causing coolant to leak past the
seal.
Root cause
Build-up of calcium carbonate in the pump, both as particles in the coolant and as deposits on the seal faces. The particle contaminants in the coolant get dragged across the seal faces and cause damage. This damage and/or the deposits on the seal faces cause eventual
leakage.
Preventive of action
Use only clean coolant for filling/topping up the cooling system. Ensure that this coolant is made up with the correct additive and with distilled water. Ensure the cleanliness of the system (eg by careful flushing out) and the components before re-fitting and filling with coolant.
